Abby and Robert were married on an absolutely perfect June day at The Fairmont in Washington, DC. It would be an understatement to say that I adored this sweet couple from the first time I met them. I felt an immediate connection and was so honored when they felt it too and asked me to be the one to document their big day. That was almost three years ago; since then, we captured their San Francisco engagement session, they lived abroad, and moved back to the east coast  — so finally getting to watch them say “I do”, in exactly the way they always wanted to, was nothing short of a joy.

They are a dream couple for many reasons: they are both thoughtful, caring individuals and they both love photography. Growing up in the area, Abby and Robert were familiar with the city and had various locations they dreamed of capturing their wedding day photographs. The Jefferson Monument, as a nod to their alma matter, UVA; the Washington National Cathedral, for its unparalleled architecture and gardens; and St. Dominic Church, a place where Abby frequented as a child. We incorporated lots of portrait time into their schedule for each stop, but, in true DC fashion, the District had other plans for us. Upon arrival at The Jefferson, we found the monument was still under heavy construction  despite the scaffolding being removed. Access to the columns was off limits, so after the first look, we quickly figured out a plan B — The Lincoln. Thankfully the timeline had a bit of buffer time, an absolute necessity when shooting around the city, and we still had time to grab all the photos we needed while arriving on time to the church to get these two married.

As for Abby and Robert? They handled the changes with grace and ease which I think translates to how their relationship will unfold as they embark on this new journey of marriage. Sure, there may be tough spots, but I saw these two whisper “I love you” on their wedding day more than any couple before. They were always fully in the moment, not letting a second of this important day pass them by. Congratulations to this sweet couple and join me in wishing them a lifetime of happiness!
