Being a Washington, DC wedding photographer, they are so many things that I love about a wedding day that it’s hard for me to pinpoint my absolute favorite. Romantic first looks and bridal portraits both rank high, but from a non-photography standpoint, something else I look forward to is getting to meet my couple’s family and friends. I’ve gotten to know the bride and groom pretty well during our planning over the past year, so when the big day finally arrives, it’s nice to see the people “behind” the couple; those who helped form their relationship in one way or another through their love and support.
Before I even arrived at Westfields Marriott in Chantilly, VA for their black tie wedding, Jennifer and Brenden’s family proved they were going to be among some of my favorites. Her sister, Amanda, took the time to make sure I knew exactly where to go upon my arrival and her father, Scott, helped me find my way through the maze that was their venue! Once I was settled, each of Jennifer’s bridesmaids was such a help in clearing space, answering questions, and just going out of their way to assist where needed. And Karen, her super sweet mom, even asked my opinion on an indoor or outdoor ceremony! (Jennifer, if it’s not already clear, I want to be adopted as your third sister…) And Brenden’s family was amazing, too! His sister-in-law, Stacy, was there to help me gather family members for group photos and even saved my light stand during the reception!
Sure, I could’ve written this post about any number of things — Jennifer’s beautiful DIY projects that looked like something out of a Pinterest board; the way we got so lucky with the weather holding out despite there being an 80% chance of rain during the ceremony; — but those things are just parts of the story. Their family and friends are what made the story possible and I think that deserves more attention than just a few pretty details and the weather!
Jennifer and Brenden, you have no idea how jealous I am that you are basking in the sun in beautiful Hawaii! I hope you’re having an amazing honeymoon and am so thankful to have been part of your wedding day!
A huge thank you to these vendors for making Jennifer & Brenden’s wedding amazing! And to Meghan of Meghan Marie Photography for being an awesome second shooter!
