If you’ve been reading this blog for any amount of time, you probably already know that I am huge proponent of anniversary photography. My husband, Rob, and I have been taking these photographs every year since our first anniversary and have cherished those memories as a way to look back on what each year has brought to our lives. I mean, I won’t lie and tell you it’s Rob’s favorite thing in the world, but he knows I love it and does it because he loves me. And that’s what marriage is all about, right? Making compromises. Because it’s certainly no secret that marriage is not easy and anyone who tells you it is is lying! We all faces our challenges on a weekly or, heck, even a daily basis but it’s our love for our spouse that keeps that bond strong. Throughout any marriage, you find yourself overcoming grief, difficulties in your jobs, managing your finances, juggling relationships with your friends and families, and so much more.
But it’s through surviving these challenges where we see our relationships flourish. Over time, those memories begin to fade but as a Washington, DC anniversary photographer, I’m here to tell you that they don’t have to! Capturing each year is a reminder of both the bad and the good, but also a reminder that you’ve made it. I actually had the privilege of photographing a couples’ 57th wedding anniversary this year at RiverOaks in Charleston, SC. They were still so clearly in love and told me the key to a good marriage is remembering all the little moments because they add up to big moments. And, of course, always letting your wife know she’s right :)
So whether you’re celebrating 57 years or “just” one year, remember that every moment matters. Wedding days will come in go in a second, but what you are left with is a lifetime of happiness with one another.
