Taylor and Jake’s Washington National Cathedral wedding in the District of Columbia was my last of the 2018 season! I still have an elopement and a few sessions to wrap up before the holidays begin, but this was my final full wedding which made it extra bittersweet! As much as I enjoy the “off-season” to spend weekends with my family and reinvigorate myself for the next season, I also genuinely miss photographing amazing couples each Saturday because I truly LOVE what I do. I’m not sure how I got so lucky, but believe me when I say being a Washington, DC wedding photographer is the best job I’ve ever had. Part of what makes this job so incredible are the couples I work with. Taylor and Jake are certainly no exception and, in fact, being the last couple of the year, I think they hold an extra special place in my mind!
These two were married in November, the weekend after daylight saving time, so they opted to shoot all their photos pre-ceremony so we could have some gorgeous natural light. November is one of those months that is completely unpredictable weather-wise; it could be a warm, fall day that makes you feel like summer is still just around the corner or it could be bitter cold reminding that yes, indeed, winter is coming. Unfortunately, we experienced the latter, complete with TWENTY mph winds. Seriously, I can’t express enough just how cold it was; the wind was rushing so hard that it literally was pushing us backwards as we made the walk from the limo. And while the National Cathedral is one of the most beautiful architectural pieces in all of DC, the inside is very dark, so besides one small alcove where we captured their first look, all photos were to be taken outside.
And these two? Not one complaint. Honestly, not one! Taylor was STUNNING in her Pnina Tornai dress (although, no surprise, she is one of the effortlessly beautiful women that would look good in a sack!) and somehow, in spite of the weather, was in the best spirits throughout wedding party photos, family photos, and couples portraits all outdoors. Their wedding party and family was equally accommodating; we got so many stunning shots as a group and while we tried to go quickly, they simply laughed and told themselves they were warm to block out the chills!
The merriment continued throughout the entire evening as arrived at the Four Seasons and their group made the day such a breeze! I loved listening to speech after speech reinforce what I already knew — that these are two kind and caring individuals who extend that wonderful trait throughout every aspect of their lives. Taylor and Jake, it was nothing short of a JOY to be part of your wedding day. I hope you two are enjoying some well-deserved warmth in Belize!
