I’ve been so lucky to photography many different couples across all of Washington, DC, but there is no place more iconic than the Lincoln Memorial. Especially with the Jefferson currently under construction, the majority of my engagement sessions each year take place at this very location. Over the years, I’ve developed my favorite path to follow throughout as session based on how I like the light to sunrise light to appear in photos. So, many of my sessions start at the Reflecting Pool as I love catching the sun rise over the Washington Monument… but Alexa and Brian’s session started a bit different than most!
See, after I hadn’t heard from them for about 15 minutes after our start time, I sent a quick text to check in and make sure everything was okay — after all, DC traffic is completely unpredictable! Just a minute later, I got a call from Alexa that they were already onsite… and had already started shooting! Through a complete mix up, they got paired up with another brunette photographer and had taken a few shots before they realized that the names were off — I mean, half of our face is hiding behind a mask these days, so completely understandable! Needless to say, we had a good laugh before getting started and they quickly eased into posing like there was no time lost!
Alex and Brian met in Philadelphia, PA, by complete chance — he asked her to dance while they were out with different groups of friends and, as they say, the rest is history! Though they hadn’t been set up and didn’t have any known connections before meeting, it turned out that they had attended the same law school and many of their friends & family members had known each other for years… in fact, their cousins are even currently dating! They moved to DC earlier this year for their careers but are getting married back in Brian’s home of Philly. I’m so grateful to have met this sweet couple and to be a small part of their love story — wishing them both nothing but the best next May!
