Welcome to my blog, where I share highlights of everything from my client's wedding days and portrait sessions, to recent features and our adventures around the world.

Hi, I'm Alicia.

My Support System

Oct 7, 2014

So, today is my birthday. Okay, that should really read, “TODAY IS MY BIRTHDAY!!” because I am totally one of those people that love celebrating their birthday. It’s actually called “Birth Week” in our house because I tend to stretch it as long as possible to enjoy the perks – picking dinner spots, skipping a few chores, dibs on movies and TV shows, extra dessert….

But this year feels a little different. I am just wrapping up my fifth consecutive weekend of having no less than 1 wedding or shoot per day, Friday through Sunday. And I still have a few more weekends to go! Don’t take this as complaining; I am beyond grateful for each and every opportunity and client that I get to work with and put 110% into each event.

That being said, there is really only one way that is possible (at this stage of additionally working full time) — with the support of my husband, Rob. He doesn’t get (or want) any attention for all he does, but without him I would be drowning. While we aren’t a husband and wife team in the traditional sense of a photography business, we are in the sense of every day life! Here a just a few of the selfless acts Rob commits to support my pursuit of building this photography business:

When in Munich… eat like the Germans do?

+ He cleans our whole house AND does the laundry. This used to be something we split evenly but taking it completely off my plate has given me so much time to redirect towards editing, etc.

+ Nights when I have weddings, depending on location I sometimes don’t get home until 12-1am. For two people who go to bed at like 10pm, I think it’s pretty awesome that he waits up to see me. Bonus: if I ever have to be out late on a work night, he sleeps in the guest room so that I can have our bed when I get home (and so I don’t wake him up!!).

+ He saves me the last few sips of Gatorade on wedding nights even though it’s his favorite, knowing that water won’t hit the spot.

+ He takes Granger to the dog park while I’m away, but always sends me videos so I don’t feel like I’m missing out too much.

+ He drives long distances so that I am able to cull and edit on the road.

+ If there is anyone else out there with a die-hard football fan in their house, you know this is true love: He missed an entire Redskins game just to help me set up and tear down a styled shoot I helped plan and photograph.

I know some of these are silly, but in all seriousness there is no way I could juggle it all without him. So all that being said, this year during my birthday week I am trying to be a bit less selfish and just enjoy the things I already have. Instead of giving me love today, give a little to Rob :)
