You guys… I’m having a love affair. I wrote a couple weeks back about how I bought my film camera in 2014 just for fun, not so much for wedding photography, but something different to try and to take on vacations. But from the first time I pressed the shutter button, it’s turned in to something so much more. I’ve been bringing it to engagement shoots to take a roll or two in addition to my digital work and just attended the For the Love of Film Workshop on Sunday (more on that coming soon!). I’m still in that learning phase where I am trying to soak up everything I possible can and it’s incredible; and I feel, in turn, making me a better wedding photographer.
Digital photography is still my bread and butter and won’t be replaced, but film is quickly winning over my heart for personal work. And while it is still a work in progress (I’m by no means even close to an expert!) I feel like I am learning something new with every roll I shoot. There is something so unique about film. Coming from a digital world, you could press the shutter as many times needed to get an image, not necessarily focusing on having the perfect settings right away. But film is so much different. It’s estimated that each press of the button is approximately $4 when you factor in film costs, shipping, and developing, so you have to be super thorough with each shot. No more “spray and pray” method which I kind of love. I never was an over-shooter to begin with (because, hey, that’s just more culling on my end!), but I feel like this is making me slow down all around and in turn, resulting in higher quality images.
But regardless, here are a few shots from my recent trials! You guys didn’t actually think I was going to start with anything but Granger, right?! My favorite model.
And a few that I have snapped at engagement sessions in the Outer Banks and Washington, DC!
