Welcome to my blog, where I share highlights of everything from my client's wedding days and portrait sessions, to recent features and our adventures around the world.

Hi, I'm Alicia.

Top Places to Travel

Jun 26, 2014

As I’ve probably mentioned, oh several dozen times, I have a pretty nasty case of the travel bug. Rob and I really want to take advantage of being young, child-less, and having the means to see some cool places because, before you know it, all that could away. We definitely aren’t in any rush and just want to make sure we at least put a solid dent in our bucket list!

In lieu of our upcoming vacation, I thought it would be fun to share with you all my top 5 favorite places I’ve ever been so far in my travels :) We are always on looking for new places to visit, so I would absolutely love to hear if you have any “can’t miss” locations for us to check out! Or if you have any questions, I love talking travel so please reach out at any time.

Warning: This post is long and filled with pictures!

Maui, Hawaii

I don’t even know where to begin — Maui is my happy place. I first went here in 9th grade with my parents for their wedding, but didn’t fully appreciate it until I went back as an adult a few years ago. Maui is by far my favorite vacation of all time because you can have the perfect mix of relaxation on their beautiful beaches and adventure through their deep forests and vast ocean.

Things to do:

+ Road to Hana (Be sure save time for the Pipiwai Trail at the end; huge waterfalls and bamboo forest)

+ Haleakala at sunrise will change your life.

+ Scuba! Don’t even need to be certified for many dives.

Places to eat:

+ Mama’s Fish House

+ Leoda’s Kitchen

+ Kihei Cafe

Venice, Italy
Oh beautiful Venice, I adore you… Your charming architecture, your blue canals, your delicious food. For such small place, there is an endless amount to see. Just go out the door of your hotel and walk — you’ll surely get lost, but in a good way! There is something to see around every corner in Venice. If you aren’t this far south, Amsterdam rivals Venice in many ways… But Venice is sinking, so go here first ;)
Things to do:
+ Top of St. Mark’s Campanile
+  Splurge on a gondola ride. Yes they are overpriced, but when will you be back!?

Places to eat:

+ any place that is filled with locals!

 ————————————————————————————————————————————

Reykjavik, Iceland
Iceland itself has to be one of the most beautiful places we’ve ever been to. Everything is so pristine and untouched. I have to be honest though, this one almost didn’t make the list for one reason — cruddy weather! It was ice raining for about 1.5 out of the 2 days we got to visit. All the more reason to go back during their summer, I suppose!
Things to do:
+ Blue Lagoon
+ Bessastadir House
+ Gullfoss Waterfall

Places to eat:
+ Baejarins Beztu Pylsur — laugh if you will, but this has been called the best hot dog in the world!

 ————————————————————————————————————————————

London, England
If you’re looking to travel abroad but are somewhat nervous, this is the spot for you! Everyone speaks English, it is incredibly easy to navigate the city, and they have a bit of everything — architecture, history, nature. I truly believe there is more to do in London than New York; we spent 4 full days there and only got to about half of what was on our list. Also, surprisingly clean!
Things to do:
+ Jack the Ripper Tour — surprisingly cool/interesting.
+ Westminster Abbey/Parliament/Big Ben — all within steps of one another.
+ Harry Potter Studio Tour
+ Stonehenge — this is a must!

Places to eat:
+ Bea’s of Bloomberry — true High Tea
+ Borough Market

 ————————————————————————————————————————————

San Francisco, California
This is hands down, our favorite metropolitan city in the US. We’ve been to many of the bigger cities — NY, LA, Boston, Chicago, and of course, DC — but so far nothing compares. San Francisco just has this perfect charm, that honestly, I can’t put in to words. Truthfully, SF has been the dirtiest city I’ve ever been to and I still love it, which says a lot. I really wish I could articulate this one better, but you just have to go there to understand what makes it so special.
Things to do:
+ Alcatraz
+ Muir Woods
+ Napa is also just a short drive!

Places to eat:
+ Ike’s Sandwiches
+ Dottie’s True Blue Cafe
+ Bi-Rite Creamery

(Can’t believe how OLD these pictures look! Kinda fun seeing your work improve over time)
