Mayflower Hotel Wedding in Washington, DC

This winter, Kristina and Sean said “I do” on their wedding day at the historic St Matthews Cathedral in Washington, DC before celebrating with their friends and family at the Mayflower Hotel’s Grand Ballroom. Living in the District of Columbia, it’s no surprise that there is a clear season for weddings — you’ll find that late April through early November is jam-packed weekend to weekend with the exception of those few sweltering weeks in August. Even still, I’ve photographed a handful of weddings in the month of January and learned quickly to be prepared for the unpredictable; last time it ended up snowing! Luckily for these two, we had the opposite end of the spectrum — it was in the low 40s with lots of sun, which is a pretty perfect day for January if you ask me! After all, these two survived a below-freezing engagement session at the Library of Congress last APRIL, so they were ready for anything.

I knew from the moment I spoke with Sean and Kristina that these were a very kind and caring couple. They came as a referral from one of my dear friends, Abby, and during our initial consultation, we realized that Sean was the Best Man for one of my 2018 grooms (shout out to Kevin & Sarah (you may remember their Rixey Manor wedding!) — thanks for the good word!). On their wedding day, I was delighted that their wedding party exuded all of these same, wonderful qualities. I think, as adults, it says a lot about our character with what people we choose to surround ourselves with and these two clearly knew what they were doing! The groomsmen were ready — on time! — for photos and happy to participate in whatever we asked! And the ladies were all so willing to lend a helping hand that I truly found them anticipating any requests before they even happened! We couldn’t have asked for a better group to lift these two up on the biggest day of their lives so far, and it’s clear that they have an amazing support system to help them navigate the future together.

Kristina and Sean, I kept telling everyone on Saturday that I wish I could clone you two! You are such wonderful individuals that are even better as a pair. I hope Hawaii has been SO good to you!
