Whenever I’m photographing a wedding, I am always shooting with the client’s album in mind. Let’s take Kathleen and Will’s gorgeous wedding day at the Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, MD — just outside of Washington, DC — for example. I arrive about an hour before the lovely bride gets dressed so that I have time to photograph her bridal details as well as details of her venue. Sure, I could have gotten started just moments before she put on her dress, but then 20 years down the road she may have forgotten that her shoes had those adorable blue bottoms or that her sister picked up personalized cookies that matched her wedding colors. I am constantly trying to think like this because I never know what will be most important to them when it does come time to order their wedding album, whether that be a lay flat Legacy Wedding Album through me in canvas or leather or through their own preferred vendor. This is also why I try to get different angles and always shoot in both vertical and horizontal; as a shoot and share photographer, I want my clients to have utmost amount of choices possible to create the most accurate story of their wedding day.
This is also why when I am designing an album, it is always in order. I truly want to tell your entire story and to do such, we must start from the beginning. The same is true for how I organize my galleries as well as how I lay out my blog posts — there is an intentional and meticulous system I follow to ensure every couple’s story is being heard in the same way, with their unique details setting each one apart from the next. I count myself incredibly lucky to not only be a Washington, DC wedding photographer, but to also be the story teller of your wedding day; your album is the medium that will continue to tell that story to generations to come.
