Along the east coast, January weddings are, in a word, unpredictable. Amanda and Brian’s Carnegie Institution of Science wedding in Washington, DC was certainly no exception to that idea, either! In the week leading up to their big day, while the forecast called for extreme cold, there was at least no precipitation in sight. When I woke up the Friday before and turned on the news, I noticed that had changed literally overnight. Snow storms were predicated throughout the region in excess of 1-2 inches. Trust me, I grew up in the North and know that doesn’t sound like a lot, but in this area even a few flurries seem to cause endless accidents. So while snow is actually very beautiful for images, it does threaten some serious delays. 

Luckily, this sweet couple already thought things through and booked getting ready locations that were just minutes away from their Carnegie wedding downtown; The Jefferson for her and The Carlyle for him. When we arrived onsite, the venue was nothing short of a winter wonderland. Their wonderful coordinator, Tabitha, from Roberts & Co. Event Planning, had arrived early to ask them to stop shoveling to ensure it was intact for photos. I think as you’ll see below, that was nothing short of a fantastic idea. The rest of the evening went off without a hitch. The stunning rotunda made for a unique ceremony with a 360-view and the ballroom doors were opened after cocktail hour to reveal the magic that Tabitha and her team created behind the scenes. Amanda and Brian, I can’t tell you both enough how amazing you were on the wedding day despite the frigid temperatures — thank you for letting me take shot after shot of you at the Carnegie in DC! I had so much fun celebrating the night with you both!
